SVGD Volunteers:
I've just added another great event on the SVGD web site!  We will be helping greet & direct people at a fantastic new housing development that will provide much needed housing for 51 families for Habitat for Humanity!! This is an opportunity to help this great organization without having to build or stock building materials!
We have two events coming up this next week.  The Glow at the Gardens event for the Botanical Gardens on Thursday has filled its minimum number but will still accept two more volunteers if you are interested.  The Most Creative Gorilla Costume Contest next Saturday still needs 3 more volunteers!  Please sign up soon if you can help!  This is a fun event that provides funds internationally for the Mountain Gorillas.  In addition to having a great time, it is a very worthwhile cause.  I'm thinking that perhaps some people might have thought this is a frivolous event but these gorillas are a highly endangered species and this is one of the events to try to save them from extinction!
I know the deadline is soon but if you'd like to have a fantastic time on a volunteer (plus free time) trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, this February I need to have your name on the list by this Thursday.  Please let me know directly if you would like to attend this volunteer trip (please check with your tax accountant for tax deductibility.)
Details for all these events are given below.

NEW EVENT:

Sable Ridge Celebration benefiting Habitat for Humanity, Sat. Oct. 29, 12-3:30PM, 6 Volunteers are needed. Our group of volunteers will welcome & direct guests plus help staff the children's activities including face painting.  Habitat for Humanity is celebrating the completion of the Sable Ridge project near 40th & Chambers which will be the home to 51 hard-working metro families!  I'm sure most of us are familiar with this great organization.  Especially in this time of high rents and home prices, this development will help so many people, who work and volunteer their hours, to finally have a home!!

EVENTS:

Glow at the Gardens benefiting Denver Botanic Gardens, Thurs., Oct.20, 5:30-10PM (We do have the minimum number of volunteers to which we committed but can still accept 2 more if you'd like to help on Thursday) ,6-8 Volunteers are needed. This Fall, the Gardens presents this as its newest event.  The York Street location will light up the night with Jack-O-Lanterns and luminaria-lined pathways.  Volunteers will be helping with the event activities during the evening. We helped them last year at their Blossoms of Light event and had a great time.  I'm sure their new event will be just as much fun as we get into the October "spirit" of Halloween!

Most Creative Gorilla Costume Contest for the 13th Annual Denver Gorilla Run, Sat.,Oct.22nd, 9AM-11AM,(WE STILL NEED 3 VOLUNTEERS FOR THIS EVENT!) 5 Volunteers are needed. For the second year we will be in charge of the costume contest at this fun event!  They loved our group so much last year that they invited us back again. Our volunteers will set up the area for the judges, will gather & coordinate the contestants as they enter the stage, & will provide the announcer with the contestants'  info.   The contest takes place just before the 5K walk/run that starts at 11AM.  The participants all wear gorilla or banana suits.  The event helps raise funds for the Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund, the international charity working to save the world's last remaining mountain gorillas & keeping Diane Fossey's dream alive for the past 30 years.  The event starts & ends at the Westin Westminster where there is an after party.  Volunteers will receive a beer ticket & food access so the volunteers will probably wish to stay a little longer after the contest to enjoy the festivities.
To sign up for these events please go to the www.svgd.org web site.

The Board has decided to have a end-of-summer fun event for our SVGD volunteer group.  We are also inviting our GOGC (Going Out for A Good Cause) MeetUp group so there should be quite a few people.  This is a great opportunity to take advantage of the great weather, get to know fellow SVGD members and also meet some new people from GOGC.  We have reserved a park in North Aurora (exact location will be given once you register.)  The well-groomed park features three covered picnic shelters with numerous tables, grills, a permanent restroom, pond, grassed area, playground and close parking.  Please bring the meat of your choice to BBQ, a dish to share (appetizer, salad, or dessert), beer or wine if you prefer an alcoholic beverage (we did purchase a permit), and also a canned item(s) that we can donate to a local Food Bank.  SVGD will provide lemonade, plates, utensils, napkins & cups.  We are planning on playing some games if you'd like.  So far we have croquet & ladder ball.  Please feel free to bring another game.  Also, you can bring a friend.  Please let us know when you register if you'd like to bring a game and, if so, what you're bringing so we don't have duplications and if you are bringing a friend so we know the number of people who will be attending. This should be a fun opportunity to close out the Summer, have a good time, meet people, and help a good cause!  I hope to see you there!

August Volunteer Events!

Saturday, July 30, 2016

SVGD Volunteers:
I have just put another new event on our web site.  We will be helping the Jeffco Action Center get  ready for their Food Pantry.  The Food Pantry serves hundreds of people to be sure their families have food on the table.
Also, we still need two volunteers to be MUDD Messengers for next Saturday's MUDD Volleyball tournament so please sign up soon for this one!  KUVO said we can bring more volunteers to the Live at the Vineyards event so we can still accept one more volunteer for that event.
I should have details out soon for a SVGD/GOGC BBQ that we are holding on August 27th.  Please keep the date open as this should be a fun social!
