Two New August Volunteer Events!

Sunday, August 07, 2016

SVGD Volunteers:

WE made it through MUDD Volleyball yesterday without getting too muddy but there were a lot of muddy players!
I have just put two new events on the SVGD web site.  The first is an End of Summer BBQ Social benefiting the Food bank and the second is the Swing at Cancer Golf Classic benefiting My Lifeline Colorado.  We can still use one more volunteer for the Food Pantry if you'd like to help.  The Live at the Vineyards event is now on Waiting List status.  Details for all the events are given below.

NEW EVENTS:

End of Summer BBQ Social benefiting Food Bank, Sat. Aug. 27, 4-8PM.  Limit of 48 attendees. The Board has decided to have a end-of-summer fun event for our SVGD volunteer group.  We are also inviting our GOGC (Going Out for A Good Cause) MeetUp group so there should be quite a few people.  This is a great opportunity to take advantage of the great weather, get to know fellow SVGD members and also meet some new people from GOGC.  We have reserved a park in North Aurora (exact location will be given once you register.)  The well-groomed park features three covered picnic shelters with numerous tables, grills, a permanent restroom, pond, grassed area, playground and close parking.  Please bring the meat of your choice to BBQ, a dish to share (appetizer, salad, or dessert), beer or wine if you prefer an alcoholic beverage (we did purchase a permit), and also a canned item(s) that we can donate to a local Food Bank.  SVGD will provide lemonade, plates, utensils, napkins & cups.  We are planning on playing some games if you'd like.  So far we have croquet & ladder ball.  Please feel free to bring another game.  Also, you can bring a friend.  Please let us know when you register if you'd like to bring a game and, if so, what you're bringing so we don't have duplications and if you are bringing a friend so we know the number of people who will be attending. This should be a fun opportunity to close out the Summer, have a good time, meet people, and help a good cause!  I hope to see you there!

Swing at Cancer Golf Classic Event benefiting My Lifeline Colorado, Mon.Aug. 29, 1-5:30PM, 6 Volunteers are needed to help with the Hole-In-One portion, the Yarn Sale/Keg Pourer portion, and the Putting Contest on the Practice Green.  Lunch, drinks, and snacks will be provided about 30 minutes before the shift starts.  We helped them last year and the group enjoyed the experience.  This year's event is going to be at the Red Rocks Country Club.  MyLifeLine.org is a nonprofit organization that encourages cancer patients and caregivers to create free personalized websites. Their mission is to empower patients to build an online support community of family and friends to foster connection, inspiration, and healing.

 OTHER EVENTS:

Live at the Vineyards benefiting KUVO Public Radio Station, Sat, Aug. 13th 3PM-9:30PM,(This event is on Waiting List status.  If you sign up you will be notified if we get a volunteer cancellation) 8 volunteers are needed to help with the Corporate Tables. We help with the table decorations then the Corporate guests arrive at 5:30PM.  We will attend to the guests by getting them wine, water & coffee, plus clear the dishes.  It is a relaxed atmosphere where you will get to interact and have fun with the corporate guests while also listening to music.  You will get to have a great gourmet meal & wine tasting also.  The event is located in Arvada at the Balistreri Vineyards.  There is also an auction and dancing.  This year's featured artist is Monty Alexander and the Harlem-Kingston Express.  We have assisted them for years and always enjoy the experience.  Good music and fun people.

Food Pantry Distribution for Jeffco Action Center, Sat., Aug. 20th, 9AM-Noon.(They will let us bring one more person to this event if you are interested.) 6 Volunteers are needed to help unload, stock, and prepare the food pantry for the busy week ahead, as well as sort clothes and assist with other tasks as needed.   During the week people in need shop with volunteer shoppers in their grocery aisles that we assist in setting up. The Action Center’s mission is to provide an immediate response to basic human needs and promote pathways to self-sufficiency for Jefferson County residents and the homeless.  They are located in Lakewood.

SVGD Volunteers:
I have just put another new event on our web site.  We will be helping the Jeffco Action Center get  ready for their Food Pantry.  The Food Pantry serves hundreds of people to be sure their families have food on the table.
Also, we still need two volunteers to be MUDD Messengers for next Saturday's MUDD Volleyball tournament so please sign up soon for this one!  KUVO said we can bring more volunteers to the Live at the Vineyards event so we can still accept one more volunteer for that event.
I should have details out soon for a SVGD/GOGC BBQ that we are holding on August 27th.  Please keep the date open as this should be a fun social!

New July Volunteer Event!

Saturday, July 02, 2016

SVGD Volunteers:
Well, it looks like our booth at the  Cherry Creek Arts Festival is off to a good start.  I was down there this morning helping to get everything set up.  It's the first time we've run a Lemonade/Snow Cone booth so there was a little learning curve.  All of our shifts have filled through July 4th. I'll have more of an update after we complete the event.  If you happen to be at the festival please look us up on the SW corner of 2nd Avenue/Clayton Street.
I've just put a new event on our web site that is happening a week from tomorrow.  We will be helping the French Alliance again!  They are not doing the Summer Soiree at which we normally assist but are doing a fun Bastille Day Festival that is open to the public!  Please see all the details below.

NEW EVENT:

Bastille Day Festival benefiting the French Alliance, Sun. July 10, 11AM-5PM.  6 Volunteers are needed to help in their food booths, making crepes, and serving soft drinks to the public.  We have helped them for several years at their Summer Soiree and always love it.  They are not doing the Summer Soiree this year.  Instead, the Bastille Day festival is an all-day event that is open to the public in Centennial Gardens park, just next to Elitch's Amusement Park.  The organization wants our volunteers to also be able to enjoy the event so will give several breaks during the time period.  The French Alliance was founded in 1897 and is one of the oldest non profits in the Denver Metro area.  It is the only French language, culture, & resource center in Colorado.

NEW EVENTS:

Party at Mick's House!, Sat. June 18, 5PM-?. Many of you know Mick Conlon who is one of our SVGD members.  He has an Annual Party at his home in the DU area.  He is inviting our SVGD members to attend!  Mick will provide the meat, side dishes, some of the beer & wine, and lots of friends who will be there.  He is asking that you bring either beer or wine to share. Get ready for a good time!!  We do ask that you register so we know how many people will be attending.  You will be given the exact address after you register.  See you Saturday!!  We haven't had a social for awhile and this sounds like a great opportunity to have a fun time.

Cherry Creek Arts Festival- Sat. July 2nd thru Mon. July 4th.  Six shifts are available on the web site. Please sign up for the one(s) that work best for you. Volunteers are needed to help at the Lemonade/Snowcone Booth. We are once again going to be doing our biggest SVGD fundraiser of the year at the Cherry Creek Arts Festival.  There have been big changes at the Festival this year.  They are only allowing 9 non profit organizations to have booths as fundraisers!  We were chosen as one of the nine from the entire Denver Metro Community!  They have a waiting list of other non profits who wish they can participate.  Our volunteers have been very reliable & professional and they appreciate our help.  As you may recall, we've always done a wine booth for them.  The wine sales have been going down annually so there will be no more wine booths.  The wine will be one of the products sold at their beer & alcohol booths.  One of their best booths (for fundraising) is their Lemonade/Snowcone booth.  We have been selected to run the one at 2nd & Clayton.  We will be having 6 shifts over the three-day period.  Five of the SVGD Board members will be booth supervisors. Might you be able to help?  We contract to have 4 volunteers on each shift and I need to get the names in to them by June 30th.  This is a fun experience & your help is very much appreciated by SVGD!  Please sign up for shift(s) that work for you.

June 16, 5-9:30P (We can still use one volunteer for this event) 6-8 Volunteers are needed to help with check in, check out, and the Silent Auction.  This event will be held at Hudson Gardens.  We helped them last December at their Olive or Twist event.  They were very impressed with our volunteers!  Divine Feline has provided quality & affordable spay/neuter & medical services for the past 20 years.  They say that there are still as many as 100,000 homeless felines on the streets of Denver!

SVGD Volunteers:
What a great group of June events!  We have a good group signed up to attend tonight's Larimer Street Chalk Fest & the weather is great!
I've just put another event on the web site.  We will be assisting the Chinook Fund again at their Grantee Dinner.  This organization provides funding for so many start-up non profits.  It's a great chance to hear of their achievements during the past year.
WE MAY NEED TO CANCEL THIS THURSDAY'S SOCIAL DINNER FOR GLOBAL ORPHAN PREVENTION as we have not had enough registrations for the event.  If you'd like to attend please sign up by Monday so we can make a decision as to whether our SVGD group will be attending this worthwhile and fun event.
We can still use 1 volunteer next Saturday if you'd like to attend the Summer Art Market.  I think everyone is just recovering from the Holiday, graduations, etc. as no one except the Event Captain has signed up yet for the Stray Cat Strut at Hudson Gardens.  I know our group enjoys this event so here's a reminder to please sign up and help them.
I hope to see you soon at an upcoming event!

Exciting New May Volunteer Event!

Thursday, May 12, 2016

SVGD Volunteers:
I've just put an exciting new event on the web site.  For the first time, we will be assisting Project Sanctuary that assists military families.  They are having a great Gala on the Club Level at Sports Authority Field.  I know our volunteers will enjoy the experience.  It is coming up very soon, however, a week from Saturday so please sign up quickly!
We have a great group of volunteers attending tonight's Mission Wear Fashion Show and quickly filled that event.  We do now have the minimum number of volunteers we promised for the Colfax Marathon distribution at Sports Authority Field this weekend but would be glad to accept more people if you are available.
Details for all the events are given below.  Please sign up on the www.svgd.org web site for any of the events.  See you soon!

NEW EVENT:

Operation Project Sanctuary (O.P.S.) Gala, Sat. May 21, 6:30-10:00PM, 6 volunteers are needed to help with the Live Auction.  Our volunteers will be placed in the audience area and will wave so the auctioneer knows when someone is bidding on an item.  There will be training as the actual auction starts between 7-7:30PM.  We will also help them to make sure the correct bidders are connected with the items upon which they bid.  This gala is held at the Club Level at Sports Authority Field!  There is a dinner, silent & live auctions, live entertainment, and exciting Project Sanctuary news while enjoying the spectacular views of the Denver skyline. Volunteers are asked to wear either black or any combination of black/white.  Project Sanctuary takes military families from battle ready to family ready. It is a a nonprofit therapeutic military family program, focused on the needs, challenges, and concerns that our military families face each day.  This is our first opportunity to assist them!!

THIS WEEKEND'S EVENT:

Colfax Marathon, Sat. May 14, 12:00-5PM, (We now have the minimum number of volunteers needed but you are still welcome to sign up) 6-12 volunteers are needed to help with the Tshirt distribution/packet pickup for the event which will be be at Sports Authority Field @Mile High.  We helped them last year also.  They have actually given us the opportunity to make this a fundraising opportunity for SVGD so we'll be making a little money depending upon the number of volunteers we get! The Colfax Marathon is a fun annual race. Runner’s World selected Colfax as 1 of 10 “Marathons to run” in 2015, and just announced Colfax as 1 of 10 “Great marathons for first timers” for 2016.
