SVGD Volunteers:
Happy Halloween!  I just put a new event on our SVGD web site.  We will be helping at the Denim & Diamonds Gala this month.  I have a feeling this one will fill up quickly so please sign up soon if you'd like to help.
One of our volunteers had to cancel for this Saturday's Habitat for Humanity ReStore event in Littleton so we could really use another volunteer for this one.  If you'd like to help please sign up soon so I can get all the information to you.  Thanks for your help!

NOVEMBER EVENTS:

Habitat for Humanity ReStore, Sat. Nov. 2nd, 10AM-2PM, (We had a volunteer cancellation so need at least 1 more volunteer for this Saturday!) 6-10 Volunteers in total will be helping. We will be helping for the first time at the Littleton store on W. Quincy. We've helped them many times previously but this is our first time at this location.  We normally are helping to stock donations onto the shelves, straighten up or rearrange some of the areas, and sometimes help with accepting incoming donations.  They have a new change in policy- ReStore volunteers will receive a 10% discount off of any purchases they wish to make on the day that they volunteer.  There is free parking and a lunch break.  Customers shop at the ReStore for new and gently used appliances, furniture, home remodeling supplies, pictures, and more at huge discounts.  All profits support Habitat for Humanity's home ownership program for low-income families.

Denim & Diamonds Gala benefiting the Bridges of Hope, Sat. Nov. 16th, 4:30-8:30PM, 6 Volunteers are needed. We will be helping with check-in, registration, and a little with the live & silent auction.  Volunteers will be provided with a plated dinner (just like the $100-$850 guests) and will have a break.  Bridges of Hope partners with single mothers and their children to provide rental assistance to prevent homelessness.  The event is being held in Lakewood at an Event Center that many use for weddings & special events.  It resembles a European Vineyard with rock arches.  We will be inside with a great view of a small lake!  Cocktail attire is fine but with the "Denim & Diamonds" theme it is fine to wear jeans and a fancy shirt.  They will be having cocktails and live music also.  We helped for the first time last year and had a fantastic time!  They gave us many complements re: our great volunteers.  Our volunteers are invited to stay to dance and enjoy the event which ends around 11:30PM.

Please sign up for these events on the www.svgd.org  web site.

Event Captain Dinner Meeting, Wed., Oct. 16th!!, 6:30-8PM.  We used to do these annually but haven't had one for the past few years. We are expecting all Event Captains and Board members to attend. Many of you have asked when we'll be having another one.  Well, here it is!  We will be meeting at a new Indian restaurant in Lone Tree that has a meeting area. After you sign up I will contact you with more information and a choice of a few menu items as we'll place our food order prior to our arrival.  We'll have an opportunity to talk, discuss ideas, distribute the new name tags, hear what is new (i.e. a new web site & Facebook page), meet the Board members as they are coming, etc.  Also, some of the new Captains should be there so it will give everyone an opportunity to meet each other, ask questions, etc.  I am looking for some new Event Captains as we've lost some due to health, moving, etc.  If you would like to be an Event Captain or know of anyone who might make a great Captain please let me know.  A new Captain does not have to be an SVGD member at this time and doesn't have to be single.        Also, two Blues bands will be playing for us in Evergreen next Saturday at the Thank You Party from Habitat for Humanity.  Everyone is welcome to attend but please let me know if you're coming so I know the number of people who will be there and can arrange any car pools that are desired.  See you there for another great time!

AUGUST EVENT:

Blues N' BBQ Thank You Party- Habitat for Humanity, Sat.,Aug. 31st 4-8PM. All members are welcome but please sign up so we have a number. On July 20th we assisted Habitat for Humanity at their Blues N' BBQ event.  Unfortunately the event was rained out 20 minutes before our shift ended and the last two bands which were going to play weren't able to do so just when we were planning on enjoying the event.  Habitat for Humanity is throwing a Thank You party where The Duke Street Kings and My Blue Sky, who never got to play due to the rain, are going to play to finish the show and they've invited all of our members (even if you didn't help at the event) to attend! They have told me how very thankful they are for all the support SVGD has provided to Habitat for Humanity through the years.  They are going to also present the check to Habitat for Humanity.  They raised a record-breaking $50,000 this year for Habitat for Humanity so they are extremely thankful for everyone who helped!  The event is going to be held at a Brewing Company in Evergreen.  Please sign up if you'd like to come so we have a number for them & then we'll get you the exact location.  This should be a fun way to start the Labor Day weekend and a great opportunity to get to the foothills just West of Denver.  We'll be glad to set up a car pool if you'd like to attend.  Come have a great time while supporting this worthwhile organization!!

NEW SEPTEMBER EVENT:

MuckFest in Parker benefiting the National MS Society, Sat. We've helped them many times previously.

Blues N' BBQ Thank You Party- Habitat for Humanity, Sat.,Aug. 31st 4-8PM. All members are welcome but please sign up so we have a number. On July 20th we assisted Habitat for Humanity at their Blues N' BBQ event.  Unfortunately the event was rained out 20 minutes before our shift ended and the last two bands were going to play weren't able to do so just when we were planning on enjoying the event.

Please sign up for any of these events on the www.svgd.org  web site.

FUTURE EVENTS:
The following events are going to be upcoming but I don't have either the Event Captains or all the details yet.  Some of our members do like to get their schedule planned as soon as possible so I'm listing these so you can "pencil them" in to your schedule.  I will let you know when I have all the information & have put them on the web site so you can "officially" register.

Sat., Sept. 14, MuckFest benefiting the National MS Foundation, 11:30AM-4PM. The event will be in Parker.  It's a muddy obstacle course. We assist but don't run the course (still may get a little muddy!)  What fun while helping a good cause!
Sat., Sept. 21  Food Bank of the Rockies, 8:45AM-Noon.  This in NE Aurora.  We will be putting food boxes together for low-income families.

If you know of any non-profit organizations that can use a group of 6 or more volunteers during an upcoming evening or weekend please feel free to give me the information as I'll be glad to explore the possibility of organizing a group of our SVGD volunteers to assist!  Thank you!

SVGD Volunteers:
I have just put another new event on our SVGD web site.  We will be serving dinner at the Denver Rescue Mission on Monday, August 12th.  Also we have a School Supply Distribution event coming up on Saturday, August 10th.  I hope you are able to help at one or both of these events.  Both provide such a great service to our community!  Thanks for your help!

AUGUST EVENTS:

School Supply Distribution for the Jeffco Action Center, Sat. Aug 10th, 9AM-12:45PM, (We still need 4 volunteers for this event.) 6 Volunteers in total will be helping. We will be helping to staff the school supply distribution. Approximately 5000 students in Jefferson County will be assisted.  Last year one of the students wrote that it "made me feel like I was not different from anyone."  Did you know?...  In 2018, Colorado had the 3rd highest rate of family homelessness in the nation and the Jefferson County School District has the highest number of identified homeless students in Colorado.  We will be helping the Action Center to make a big difference in our Metro community.  The event will be held at an elementary school in Wheat Ridge.

Serving Dinner at the Denver Rescue Mission, Mon. Aug. 12th 4:45-7:30PM, 6 Volunteers are needed. We will be serving dinner to the homeless in their Downtown facility.  They do have free parking for the volunteers.  For some of the guests, the meals they serve at the Mission are the only source of nutrition they receive.  They say that "with each healthy meal comes strength to face the new challenges of each day."  They serve over 600,000 meals to the hungry each year.  We have helped them before.  The volunteers truly find this to be a worthwhile experience
