SVGD April Events

Tuesday, March 26, 2013

I have three fantastic new April events to announce in this newsletter:  Planting Flowers in Stapleton, Habitat for Humanity, and  "White Night for Autism."  Details on each of these events are noted below.

The Doors Open Denver event has had a great response from our volunteers.  We have filled the 10 positions.  If you registered you should have received a confirmation that you are on the volunteer list.  If you haven't registered, but would still like to assist, you can register on the Waiting List.  Details are below.

I could still use a couple more new Event Captains.  Also, I now need two more people on the Event Committee; one person to be the non profit liaison for non profits in the Animal/Nature areas and another in the Sports area.  Information on both of these opportunities is given following the events.

HAPPY SPRING!!

NEW EVENTS:

Planting Flowers in Stapleton benefiting Denver Parks & Recreation, Sat., April 6, 9AM - Noon, 6-8 volunteers are needed to help ring in Spring by planting 1,000 native species flowers along Westerly Creek!  Volunteers should dress in layers.  Tools, work gloves, & breakfast willl be provided.  This is a fun opportunity to get outside, have fun, get a little exercise, and help this Neighborhood Partners Evironmental Team.  In the event of snow or below freezing temperatures, the event would be canceled and volunteers would be notified.

Habitat for Humanity Outlet Store, Sat., April 6, 2-6PM, 6 volunteers are needed to assist at the Wheat Ridge Outlet Store.  You do not have to know how to build anything to help out!  We help with the donations that come into the store, help arrange the store items, and help customers who need assistance getting their items to their vehicles.  We get a little dusty and do a little lifting but it is not overly strenuous work.  Our volunteers always have a great time helping this good cause.

"White Night for Autism" benefiting The Joshua School, Friday, April 19, 5:15-11PM, 10-12 Volunteers are needed to help at this grand Annual Gala.  Volunteers will help check in/check out guests, the live auction, the wine table, and the envelope raffle.  Volunteers will be provided dinner and a couple drinks at this elegant Cherry Hills Village event which features entertainment.  Joshua School provides services to students with autism & developmental disabilities.

 EVENT CAPTAINS/EVENT COMMITTEE MEMBERS NEEDED:

I am still looking for a couple members who would like to become Event Captains.  Event Captains do not have to find the events but they provide leadership the day of an event, confirm the registrations of volunteers, send out the details on the event to the volunteers and stay in contact with the non profit just prior to the event.  This may sound like a lot but it really only takes an extra couple hours prior to the event.  We have a great group of current Event Captains but find that we need just a few more.  If you have attended a few of our events so you've got an idea of how our organization works and would like to help me out with providing some event leadership please let me know.  I'd be sure you get all the info. & support you need plus would have you co-chair an event with someone before you do it solo.  I really look forward to hearing from a few of you!  Thanks for considering this opportunity!  I can be reached at event@svgd.org .

Do you like Animals/Nature or have good contacts in the Sports area?  There are currently two openings on the Event Committee in these two areas.  Event Committee members serve as liaisons for our organization in respective subject areas.  When there is a new event they check with me to see if it can be put on our calendar then get the details.  Although Event Committee members can lead events in their areas they do not have to.  Once I find an Event Captain they take over as the primary contact for the event.  This position only takes a couple hours per month.  Please let me know if you'd like to help out in the Animals/Nature or Sports area.  I can be reached at event@svgd.org .

SVGD New February Events

Sunday, January 13, 2013

I'm excited to announce that SVGD & Metro Volunteers have agreed to cooperate on some volunteer efforts.  Metro Volunteers will be featuring SVGD as their Non Profit Organization of the Month for the month of February and will be promoting our February 9th event to their volunteers.  I am hopeful that this reciprocal arrangement will help both organizations to grow and to be even more helpful to the non profit organizations we serve.
I have two new events to announce in this newsletter.  First, there is an opportunity to celebrate at a Super Bowl Party which provides funds to local charities (I know, most of us are depressed about the Broncos this weekend but the Super Bowl will still be a fun event).  Second, we will be having several volunteers at the Shaken Not Stirred Martini Party which benefits Boys Hope Girls Hope.  I hope to see you at both of these great events!
Also, please don't forget about our upcoming Annual Meeting on February 7th.  Your online voting ballot will be available soon if you are not able to attend.  We still need one volunteer for the Dinner at the Crossing if you are available on February 1st.  We are going into a hectic season of events so I hope you put some time on your calendar for volunteering!  All of the opportunities I've mentioned have details below.
