December 29, 2019

SVGD Volunteers:
I just put our first January event on the SVGD web site so you can now sign up.  We will be helping to sort food at the Food Bank of the Rockies on Sat., January 11th.  We always enjoy the experience!
We do still need 1 volunteer for tomorrow evening's Blossoms of Light event at the Denver Botanic Gardens!!!  Please sign up soon if you can help so I can get all the information to you.
Also, might you be interested in being on the SVGD Board of Directors?  We are going to be having our Annual Meeting in mid-February where one of the things we do is elect our next Board of Directors.  We need to get the list of candidates out to our membership by mid-January.  We do have returning Board members but "new blood" is always welcome.  If you'd like to discuss what we do and decide whether you'd like to join the Board please email me.
Thanks so much for your help in our community!

Blossoms of Light at the Denver Botanic Gardens, Mon.,Dec.30th, 4:15-9:15PM, (We still need 1 Volunteer for tomorrow's event!), 6 Volunteers of our volunteers will be helping.  We will be assisting in areas such as greeters, receipt checkers, with the lines of attendees, etc. The Gardens' has held this signature event for over three decades!  The annual holiday lights extravaganza transforms their York Street location into a twinkling Winter Wonderland.  This year's display features a 360-degree immersive light experience and is more expansive and brighter than ever before.  We will be assisting on a day that many people will have off since New Year's Eve is on Tuesday.  Hopefully, this will be a great time for many of our group to assist with the busy event.

Food Sorting at the Food Bank of the Rockies, Sat., Jan.11th, 12:15-3:30PM, 6 Volunteers are needed. We will, once again, be helping at their main warehouse in Aurora.  Food and other items are processed from food drives and grocery rescue pickups.  Volunteers will help inspect, sort and box these items before they are distributed to clients.  This requires an attention to detail but is a low impact/physical area although it does require standing for the shift.  The Food Bank of the Rockies helps families thrive by procuring and distributing food and essentials to the hungry.  They are a fantastic organization!

To sign up for these events please go to the web site.

The following events are going to be upcoming but I don't have either the Event Captain or all the details yet.  Some of our members do like to get their schedule planned as soon as possible so I'm listing these so you can "pencil them" in to your schedule.  I will let you know when I have all the information & have put them on the web site so you can "officially" register.
Sat., Jan. 18th 10AM-2PM, We will be helping at the Denver Habitat for Humanity ReStore
Sat., Feb.1- 12:30-3PM, We will be helping at Cafe 180 where they serve meals to those who don't have the money to pay
Sat., Feb. 8- (time to be determined-probably 4:30PM) We will be helping at the Dining in the Dark Gala for the Blind Institute of Technology
Sat., Feb. 15th- 10:30AM-1:30PM, We will be serving lunch at The Crossing Homeless shelter
If you know of any non-profit organizations that can use a group of 6 or more volunteers during an upcoming evening or weekend please feel free to give me the information as I'll be glad to explore the possibility of organizing a group of our SVGD volunteers to assist!  Thank you!
