May 10, 2020

SVGD Volunteers:
It's been awhile!  I hope all of you are staying safe & healthy!  As you know, our last event was on March 11th when we served dinner at the Denver Rescue Mission.  Then, the pandemic has affected everyone!  The SVGD Board has wanted you all to stay safe and group events have just not been advised.
Finally, we have gone from the "Stay at Home" stage to the "Safer at Home" stage.  We still want everyone to be safe but we are slowly going to be to doing some events as long as we can communicate with the non profits and determine events that will allow for "social distancing."
So, here is the first new event that meets those criteria.  I'm sure we are all anxious for life to get back to normal again so please sign up if this looks like something you would like to do on Memorial Day.

Flower on Every Grave benefiting Victory for Veterans, Memorial Day, Mon. May 25th, approx. 8:30-10:30AM. 6 Volunteers are needed. Finally, an event that should have "social distancing!" as we now move to the "Safer At Home" stage.  We will be helping them place a flower on every grave at Ft. Logan National Cemetery.  The organization has been working hard to make sure that our Event Captain can pick up the flowers by driving up in her car rather than as a group, and then will be able to hand out the flowers to our small group and have a specific part of the cemetery where we will be placing the flowers.  Of course, masks are encouraged.  We will do our best to maintain a safe distance but you should still be able to talk to others in our group, enjoy getting out a little and, of course, be able to do something worthwhile on this Holiday.  This organization serves veterans & their families, one at a time.  Their Vision is Absolute Zero!- zero suicides, zero homeless, zero jobless, zero uncared for, & zero feeling alone and abandoned.  The Memorial Day event is part of a larger mission which also includes putting flowers on the graves in Arlington National Cemetery, organized by the Memorial Day Flowers Foundation.  We've helped them the past couple years, really have enjoyed the event & the spirit of Memorial Day with enough time to move forward and have a great Holiday for ourselves!

To sign up for this event please go to the web site.

The following events are going to be upcoming but I don't have either the Event Captain or all the details yet.  Some of our members do like to get their schedule planned as soon as possible so I'm listing these so you can "pencil them" in to your schedule.  I will let you know when I have all the information & have put them on the web site so you can "officially" register.

Sat. July 18th, 3-6PM, Blues & BBQ concert event for Habitat for Humanity, 3-6PM helping with registration, then we will be able to stay to watch the headliner band!- I STILL HAVEN'T HEARD THE STATUS OF THIS ONE YET TO CONFIRM WHETHER IT IS STILL HAPPENING.  I WILL LET YOU KNOW WHEN I HEAR. THANKS FOR YOUR PATIENCE AS WE MOVE FORWARD!

     More to come.....

To sign up for any of the SVGD events please go to the website & click on the Events tab near the top of the page.  Once you've successfully registered you will receive an automated response confirming your registration.  You will then receive more detailed information from your Event Captain for the event. It will give the contact info. for you.  Please feel free to contact your Event Captain or myself if you have any questions.  Please know that if you sign up in the last couple days prior to an event that you should contact your Event Captain to confirm your status and get the necessary information to attend.
THREE STRIKE POLICY:  We have a "three-strike policy" at SVGD.  We realize that everyone has emergencies, illnesses, work conflicts, etc. that sometimes unexpectedly cause a volunteer to have to cancel attendance at an event.  When someone doesn't show up or cancels within 24 hours of an event we make a note of this.  If someone does this 3 times we do not allow them to continue registering.  Our organization makes a commitment of a certain number of volunteers that we will provide at their non-profit event and they depend upon us to do so.  When we don't bring the number of volunteers to which we commit we let them down and it affects our credibility with them for future events. In our current environment there are hundreds of MeetUp groups.  Many people are used to registering for those types of events and not showing up.  We are a different type of organization so need our members to understand this difference.  Thanks to all of you who repeatedly volunteer and keep your commitment.  We and the non-profit organizations we assist truly appreciate your help!!
