SVGD NEWSLETTER
March 22, 2020

SVGD Volunteers:
Good morning!  I hope you all are doing well & managing to find some fun things to do around your home with this big change in lifestyle right now!  Personally, I just started reading a book that I haven't had time to read and am starting to clean up some areas in my home.  Also, it's a good time to call people and perhaps give some assistance to high-risk people that you know.
All four of our April events have canceled and, for the first time, we have no events for which you can register on our SVGD web site.  This may continue for awhile.  I have noted the status of all of our future events below, as some are still tentatively scheduled and one has been rescheduled for the Fall.  I am not going to actively look for more events until everything settles down.  Meanwhile there are some opportunities for individuals to help in some of your local areas especially in the food area for schools & low-income residents and a few other areas.  I would encourage you to check those areas out if you want to assist the community.  Right now our format that provides groups is not the safest and our SVGD Board wants all of our members to be safe & healthy.
Hopefully, this situation will change soon!  I know that once it does we are going to be super busy with many nonprofits needing our assistance!!
Below, I have noted some information about the Amazon Smile program.  I'm hoping you might be able to help keep us strong so we can provide the many volunteer services that will be needed soon.  Thank you!

Are you stuck inside and don't want to venture to the stores?  Are you purchasing a lot on Amazon?  Help SVGD (Single Volunteers of Greater Denver) from the safety of your home.  With each purchase you make on smile.amazon.com you will give back to our nonprofit organization so we can continue to provide groups to assist at the numerous nonprofits in the Denver Metro area.  During times like these, all the non profits are soon going to need all the assistance they can get!
Next time you are ready to make an order on Amazon.com, bookmark this address instead:  smile.amazon.com. The smile program donates 0.5% of the cost of eligible items to a non-profit of your choice!  The first time you go, fill out your Amazon username and a password, then choose Single Volunteers of Greater Denver as the charitable organization you want to support.  From now on, just bookmark and click to smile.amazon.com and donate to SVGD every time you shop!

Thank you for supporting our fantastic organization so that we can continue to have funds for insurance, a web site, etc. and can continue supporting the many charities that we assist in the areas of:  Hunger/Homelessness, Health, Animals/Nature, Elderly/Families/Military, and many other Other cultural and community events! We normally help at approximately 60 nonprofit events annually & that number may go up soon!  We can use your help in order for us to help our community in many areas!

COVID-19 Affecting Upcoming Events!

SVGD NEWSLETTER
March 15, 2020

SVGD Volunteers:
I have been receiving emails from dozens of non-profit organizations that we assist.  Most of them are canceling their events that are coming up within, minimally, the next 30 days due to COVID-19.  I have put a list of the Future Events that we'd confirmed and have noted their present status.  As of right now, I do not have any events on our web site for which you can register due to the numerous cancellations.
The last event that we did was this past Wednesday.  Our SVGD volunteers helped to serve 611 dinners at the Denver Rescue Mission!
The Beautiful Junk Sale benefiting the Jeffco Action Center next Saturday has been canceled.  The Bella Boutique Prom Dress event has not been canceled as of yet.  I heard from them saying that they have not heard from the schools yet as to whether they are canceling the proms.  If, indeed, that one does proceed I will let you know when I put it on the web site.  That one is still scheduled for April 4th.
The SVGD Board of Directors wants all of our volunteers to be safe!  They want you to know that we may not offer as many events per month due to the organizers canceling the events.  Also, SVGD encourages volunteers not to attend an event if one is scheduled if they feel sick until the COVID-19 outbreak is remedied.  The three-strike policy will not apply during this time.  Also, while attending events, volunteers are encouraged to limit contact with guests and to wash their hands frequently.  We have a great group of volunteers and we want you all to be safe.
I am starting to receive contacts from the non profits that serve low-income people, especially by providing food.  They still need to be sure that people have food so, I believe, those may be some of the first events that we start doing.   Please check the list below to see the current status of the upcoming events to which we have already committed.  I will keep you posted as to any updates on these events or any new events that we do schedule.

3 March Volunteer Events

SVGD NEWSLETTER
March 1, 2020

SVGD Volunteers:
We have three great volunteer events coming up in March for which you can register!  The first is coming up this Thursday- WE STILL CAN USE 1 MORE VOLUNTEER FOR THURSDAY SO PLEASE SIGN UP SOON TO HELP  at the event benefiting Colorado Trout Unlimited!   Also, on March 11th we will be serving dinner at the Downtown Denver Rescue Mission!  Our volunteers always love to help to make a difference at this event.  On March 21st we will be helping at the "Beautiful Junk Sale" at the Jeffco Action Center.  This Center makes a tremendous difference for homeless & low-income families.  Oftentimes, they get donations that are "above & beyond" what they need for their daily shop for their clients so they save them up and sell them at this sale!
Also, I've listed some of our upcoming future events that have already been scheduled so you can pencil them on your calendar.  I will let you know when they are on the web site so you can register.  We've got lots of worthwhile upcoming activities!  I hope to see you soon at an upcoming event!

MARCH EVENTS:

River Stewardship Gala benefiting Colorado Trout Unlimited, Thurs. March 5th 3-7:30PM, (WE STILL NEED 1 VOLUNTEER FOR THIS THURSDAY IF YOU CAN HELP!)  4 Volunteers from our group will be assisting. There is training at 3PM but our event assistance will start at 4PM.  We will be helping with Ipads for the silent auction bidding and will help sell raffle tickets.   The event is at Mile Hi Station which is near I25/Colfax.  There is free parking at the location.  Attire is business casual.  Funds from the Gala go towards  CTU's work in youth education, protecting in-stream flows & temperature, reintroducing and protecting native trout, and preserving & restoring the state's fisheries and their watersheds.  This is our first time helping them. Dinner will be provided towards the end of our shift.  It should be a great new experience for a very worthy cause!

Serving Dinner at the Denver Rescue Mission, Wed. March 11th 4:45-7:30PM, 6 Volunteers are needed. We will be serving dinner to the homeless in their Downtown facility.  They do have free parking for the volunteers.  For some of the guests, the meals they serve at the Mission are the only source of nutrition they receive.  They say that "with each healthy meal comes strength to face the new challenges of each day."  They serve over 600,000 meals to the hungry each year.  We have helped them before.  The volunteers truly find this to be a worthwhile experience.

"Beautiful Junk Sale" benefiting JeffCo Action Center, Sat. March 21, 7:45AM-Noon, 6 volunteers are needed.  We are going to help with the sales portion where we will be helping to stock and stage the merchandise as well as assist buyers.  This event is back by request from previous volunteers who had such a great time! This enormous 2-day garage sale is the largest bargain shopping extravaganza in Jefferson County.  It is held at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds and offers 10,500 sq. ft. of jewelry, collectibles, vintage odds & ends, a vast array of household items, sporting goods, holiday decor & much more!  Our volunteers will be helping during the actual sale which continues all day so they will have the opportunity to shop after their shift if they wish.  This event normally brings in more than $40,000 to support families in need through the Action Center's services. The Action Center’s mission is to provide an immediate response to basic human needs and promote pathways to self-sufficiency for Jefferson County residents and the homeless.  We help them with their Clothing & Food donations as well as their Thanksgiving food donations to needy families.  This is such a worthy non profit!!

To sign up for these events please go to the www.svgd.org web site.
