SVGD NEWSLETTER
April 12, 2019

SVGD Volunteers:
I have put two new volunteer events on our SVGD web site so that you can now volunteer for them.  We will be helping Cafe 180 that assist those who can't afford a meal on April 27th and will be helping as beer pourers at the Cherry Creek Sneak on April 28th.  Let the fun begin!  These are both fantastic events!
First of all though, we've had a volunteer cancellation for tomorrow evening's Puttin on the Leash Silent Auction benefiting the Boulder Humane Society.  If you'd like to have a great time tomorrow evening while helping a very worthwhile non profit please sign up SOON!  Thanks for your help!  We've had enough volunteers sign up but then have ER's so we've had to get more.  THE END RESULT IS THAT WE STILL NEED 1 PERSON FOR TOMORROW EVENING IF YOU CAN HELP!

 APRIL EVENTS:

Puttin' on the Leash benefiting the Boulder Humane Society, Sat. April 13th, 5-8:30PM (Volunteer Dinner will be prior to that starting at 4PM) -We still need 1 volunteer for tomorrow's event! 6 Volunteers in total will be helping with the Silent Auction. We have helped with this for several years & our volunteers always have a fantastic time!!  They always put on a great program plus literally raise hundreds of thousands of dollars!  It's one of the most successful silent auctions that we attend.  It's a lot of fun and we always have a good time at the Coors Event Center in Boulder.  We will be glad to arrange carpooling if you'd like. The dollars they raise help many abandoned & needed pets.  They treat us well as volunteers, provide dinner before we start, and there's lots going on during the event.  You'll be happy you helped & came to see this fantastic event!

Cafe 180 benefiting those who can't pay for their meals, Sat.,April 27th 12:30-3PM, 5 Volunteers are needed to serve customers, help prepare food, yes, even help clean up!  Cafe 180's mission is to reduce hunger in the community by providing meals to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay.  Not only do they serve up delicious food, they serve up respect, dignity & self sufficiency.  We helped them a few times and really enjoyed the experience.  Plus we each had a great meal when we completed our shift!  They say:  "we've all relied on the kindness of others at certain times in our lives... For those who have enough, it's a chance to eat well and do well. For those who are struggling, it's a chance to eat in a dignified manner.  We're not about hand outs.  We're about giving people a hand up..."  Volunteers need to wear comfortable shoes & anyone with long hair needs to have it pulled back.  The group will have cafe' shirts to wear when they get there. The location for the event is near Hampden/Broadway.   What a great opportunity!

Cherry Creek Sneak, Sun.April 28th, 8:30AM-Noon. 6 Volunteers are needed. We will be beer pourers for this event. Many of our patrons will be the runners in the event who receive a beer certificate.  This event is  such a well-known Denver tradition.  The race is on 1st Avenue, in the Cherry Creek area.  They also have a great after party with a costume contest, music, vendors, etc.  Since we will be "beer pourers" we won't have to be there super early like the volunteers for the registration etc. (6AM for them!)  The Cherry Creek Sneak offers run/walk courses for all levels.  They partner with the We Don't Waste non profit so that food goes to those who need it rather than landfills.  The Sneak’s after-race festivities have turned into Denver’s biggest block party—post-race fun draws nearly 20,000 racers, friends, and family for music, cool vendors, a costume contest,  and a Kids’ Fun Zone sponsored by the Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children. Proceeds benefit Food Bank of the Rockies, a non-profit organization providing food and supplies to more than 1000 hunger-relief programs in Northern Colorado and Wyoming.
