SVGD Volunteers:
Happy Halloween!  I just put a new event on our SVGD web site.  We will be helping at the Denim & Diamonds Gala this month.  I have a feeling this one will fill up quickly so please sign up soon if you'd like to help.
One of our volunteers had to cancel for this Saturday's Habitat for Humanity ReStore event in Littleton so we could really use another volunteer for this one.  If you'd like to help please sign up soon so I can get all the information to you.  Thanks for your help!

NOVEMBER EVENTS:

Habitat for Humanity ReStore, Sat. Nov. 2nd, 10AM-2PM, (We had a volunteer cancellation so need at least 1 more volunteer for this Saturday!) 6-10 Volunteers in total will be helping. We will be helping for the first time at the Littleton store on W. Quincy. We've helped them many times previously but this is our first time at this location.  We normally are helping to stock donations onto the shelves, straighten up or rearrange some of the areas, and sometimes help with accepting incoming donations.  They have a new change in policy- ReStore volunteers will receive a 10% discount off of any purchases they wish to make on the day that they volunteer.  There is free parking and a lunch break.  Customers shop at the ReStore for new and gently used appliances, furniture, home remodeling supplies, pictures, and more at huge discounts.  All profits support Habitat for Humanity's home ownership program for low-income families.

Denim & Diamonds Gala benefiting the Bridges of Hope, Sat. Nov. 16th, 4:30-8:30PM, 6 Volunteers are needed. We will be helping with check-in, registration, and a little with the live & silent auction.  Volunteers will be provided with a plated dinner (just like the $100-$850 guests) and will have a break.  Bridges of Hope partners with single mothers and their children to provide rental assistance to prevent homelessness.  The event is being held in Lakewood at an Event Center that many use for weddings & special events.  It resembles a European Vineyard with rock arches.  We will be inside with a great view of a small lake!  Cocktail attire is fine but with the "Denim & Diamonds" theme it is fine to wear jeans and a fancy shirt.  They will be having cocktails and live music also.  We helped for the first time last year and had a fantastic time!  They gave us many complements re: our great volunteers.  Our volunteers are invited to stay to dance and enjoy the event which ends around 11:30PM.

Please sign up for these events on the www.svgd.org  web site.

SVGD Volunteers:
We had a great time at the Pumpkin Fest at Chatfield Farms benefiting the Denver Botanic Gardens yesterday plus had great weather!  Thanks to those of you who helped!  They gave us each a free pumpkin.  We had thousands of people there having fun, going through the Corn Maze, getting hay rides, enjoying the children's carnival and getting their pumpkins!
We still need a group of volunteers to help next Saturday at the Clothing Donation Sorting for the Jeffco Action Center.  Please sign up soon if you can help.  We always enjoy the event but so far no one has signed up!!  I don't want to let them down as the last time we were going to help there was bad weather.  Please help if you can.  Thank you!

OCTOBER EVENT:

Clothing Donation Sorting for Jeffco Action Center, Sat., Oct. 19th, 9AM-Noon. 6 Volunteers are needed to help sort the donated clothing for the busy week ahead.   During the week people in need shop with volunteer shoppers in their donation "store" that is set up by sizes and types of clothing just like a regular store.  They are told how many items they can receive at the store and are given a time limit for their shopping. We have helped with this portion of their center's activities before and really enjoyed the experience!! The Action Center’s mission is to provide an immediate response to basic human needs and promote pathways to self-sufficiency for Jefferson County residents and the homeless.  They are located in Lakewood. We were going to help them in January but the event was canceled due to the bad weather. I'm happy that we have a chance again to help!

Please sign up for any of these events on the www.svgd.org  web site.

OCTOBER EVENTS:

Pumpkin Fest benefiting Denver Botanic Gardens, Sat. Oct 12th, 12-6PM(WE STILL NEED 2 VOLUNTEERS TO HELP THIS UPCOMING SATURDAY!) 6 Volunteers in total will be helping. We have helped at this event several times and always enjoy the experience.  They usually give us each a free pumpkin in appreciation for helping which helps us get our homes in the Halloween or Thanksgiving spirit.  The event is held at Chatfield Farms.  We've helped before in areas such as with the people entering the Festival, at the check out lines, etc.  It's a lot of fun with a lot of happy people while helping the Gardens.

Event Captain Dinner Meeting, Wed., Oct. 16th!!, 6:30-8PM.  We used to do these annually but haven't had one for the past few years. We are expecting all Event Captains and Board members to attend. Many of you have asked when we'll be having another one.  Well, here it is!  We will be meeting at a new Indian restaurant in Lone Tree that has a meeting area. After you sign up I will contact you with more information and a choice of a few menu items as we'll place our food order prior to our arrival.  We'll have an opportunity to talk, discuss ideas, distribute the new name tags, hear what is new (i.e. a new web site & Facebook page), meet the Board members as they are coming, etc.  Also, some of the new Captains should be there so it will give everyone an opportunity to meet each other, ask questions, etc.  I am looking for some new Event Captains as we've lost some due to health, moving, etc.  If you would like to be an Event Captain or know of anyone who might make a great Captain please let me know.  A new Captain does not have to be an SVGD member at this time and doesn't have to be single. This will be a great opportunity for new Captains to meet others and learn more about what we do as an organization.  I hope you are as excited as I that we are going to be getting together!
