SVGD Volunteers:

April is going to be a very busy month for us!  I hope you are ready and able to help our community!  I just put three new events on our web site.  We will be helping at events benefiting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the Denver Dumb Friends League, and the American Lung Association.  We, as an organization, make a very big difference in our community!  Also, I still need 4 volunteers for the 9HealthFair.  Please see all the info. below.  We are going into our busy season!!!  I appreciate your support!

Need Event Captains!

Might you consider being an Event Captain??? I need a couple more people to help as we've had some people move, have health issues, etc.  I provide the training information so you know what to do.  You do not have to plan the events.  I do that but I just cannot physically lead all of them.  It's a lot of fun!!  I give you the info. that you give to your volunteers, then you show up-hand out name tags, make sure everyone is doing what needs to be done, and have a good time!  As I said, I could really use a couple more Event Captains.  You will probably co-lead your first time so you can understand the process.  Please let me know if you'd like more info. & might consider doing this.  Thank you!!

Please sign up on www.svgd.org to attend these events.

NEW EVENTS:

Karaoke/Lip Sync Fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Thurs. April 5th, 6PM, Everyone is welcombut please sign up so we know to expect you. We will have a private room. There is an organization called Giving Wheels. One of the two founders lost his father to leukemia and they set up this organization to donate to the Society.  The research the Society is doing is truly remarkable and this past year a new immunotherapy was approved by the FDA that drastically improves the remission rates for certain types of leukemia in children!  No, you don't have to sing.  The event is free and is located north of Downtown on Platte Street.  People will do things like donate $2 to sing a song, pay $5 to get a "bad knee pass", etc.  The money raised will go to the Society.  It sounds like a lot of fun and a great group of people!  This is a social experience where we will have a good time plus give back to a great cause!  I hope to see you there!  I will send you the exact location after you register.

"Cheers to Beers" benefiting the Denver Dumb Friends League, Sat. April 7th, 2-4PM, Everyone is welcome but I do need to give them a registration number so please sign up.  You can even bring your well-mannered dog on a leash if you wish and raise a pint to local brews on National Beer Day! This event is located at a brewery on South Broadway/near Mineral in Littleton.  Another great opportunity to have a good time while helping a very worthy cause.  We were invited this past month & are doing so again per popular request from our members who wish to support this organization.  Thank you!  I look forward to seeing you there!  This is another great opportunity for a social event before we kick in to our very busy event schedule.  Take some time off, help a worthy organization, and enjoy!!

An Affair for Air Gala benefiting the American Lung Association, Sat. April 14th, 5PM-(still confirming the ending time, the event ends at 11PM).  6 volunteers are needed They are having a cocktail reception, silent auction, dinner, program, live auction, dancing & entertainment.  It should be a lot of fun!  This is their inaugural glamping themed gala ("glamping" camping attire- I still don't understand this- more to come!)  The event will be held at The Hanger at Stanley Marketplace, approx. 25th/Dallas in Aurora.  The American Lung Association in Colorado is the leading health organization dedicated to fighting threats to lung health including asthma, lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), tobacco and air pollution.

OTHER EVENT:

9Health Fair, Sun. April 15th, 7AM til Noon, (We still need 4 volunteers for this event) 6 volunteers are needed.  We will be helping in their Height/Weight/BMI index area and also in the Interactive Education Center.  I'm sure we all know what a great service the 9Health Fairs provide for people who don't have insurance or who are under-insured!  We will be helping again in South Denver off of Hampden. 9Health Fair is the largest volunteer-driven, non-profit health, wellness & prevention effort in the nation!  They provide affordable, convenient screenings, & health education.

April 7th, will be helping the American Lung Association at their Affair for Air Gala on Sat., April 14th, and will be helping with the Silent Auction for the Puttin' On the Leash event for the Boulder Humane Society the evening of Sat. SVGD Volunteers:

I've just added two new events on our web site.  We will be attending the "Yappy Hour" benefiting the Denver Dumb Friends League and will also be cashiers for the Jeffco Action Center's "Beautiful Junk Sale".  Also, I still need three people to help at The Delores Project dinner.  They really need our help as this women's safe house now has to move from one temporary location into another temporary location that doesn't even have a kitchen!!

Thank you to all of you!   We have such a great group of volunteers!  Please register if you are available for any of these events.

EVENTS:

Serving Dinner at the Delores Project women's safehouse, Tues. March 13,6-8:15PM  (We still need 3 volunteers for this event!6 Volunteers are needed.  We have assisted this women's safe shelter several times.  This time it will be a little different as The Delores Project is currently in a temporary shelter as they build their new facility.  They have to leave the temporary shelter two days after we assist them so really need our help as they are going through this transition.  Their new shelter doesn't even have a kitchen so we won't be able to help them again until next Fall!!   The shelter is in West Denver.  We help by preparing the already provided food and serving.  Volunteers have an opportunity to meet the residents after serving by also enjoying the meal.  This is a confidential location that is given out to the volunteers after registering due to the nature of the facility.  Both male & female volunteers are welcome to assist at this event.

Yappy Hour at Comrade Brewing benefiting the Dumb Friends League, Thurs. March 15, 6-8PM, Everyone is welcome but we do need to register how many are coming prior to the event. Please sign up by Monday, March 12th so we can let them know how many are coming. Join us at the brewery (near Iliff/Quebec) for their "Pet Me, I'm Irish" Yappy Hour.  The event will feature food trucks, giveaways and collectible pint glasses- plus a portion of all proceeds will benefit the Dumb Friends League.  Celebrate the spirit of St. Paddy's Day- come dressed in green, with your furry friend if you'd like (must be leashed, well behaved & kept in hand), and raise a pint for homeless pets.  Every once in awhile we do a social event that benefits a good cause.  I hope you'll register (they do require this) and enjoy
the fun event while meeting other great volunteers from many organizations/companies!

"Beautiful Junk Sale" benefiting JeffCo Action Center, Sat. March 17, 8:45AM-12:45 PM, 6 volunteers are neededWe are going to be cashiers for the sale this time which should be a lot of fun.  This event is back by request from volunteers who helped them last Spring and had such a great time! This enormous 2-day garage sale is the largest bargain shopping extravaganza in Jefferson County.  It is held at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds and offers 10,500 sq. ft. of jewelry, collectibles, vintage odds & ends, a vast array of household items, sporting goods, holiday decor & much more!  Our volunteers will be helping during the actual sale which continues all day so they will have the opportunity to shop after their shift if they wish.  This event normally brings in more than $40,000 to support families in need through the Action Center's services. The Action Center’s mission is to provide an immediate response to basic human needs and promote pathways to self-sufficiency for Jefferson County residents and the homeless.  We help them with their Clothing & Food donations as well as their Thanksgiving food donations to needy families.  This is such a worthy non profit!!
