SVGD NEWSLETTER
January 30, 2019

SVGD Volunteers:
We had our 2019 SVGD Annual Meeting last night.  Congratulations to our newly elected Board members:  Brenda Spomer, Doug Steebner, Erik Schumann, Kayla Okafor & Lylie King!!!!  We have a great group of people for the new Board and will be meeting in about a month to start on our 2019 activities.  We also had a wonderful group of members for our dinner meeting last night and got a lot of good suggestions and ideas for the upcoming year in order to try to make SVGD as good as possible for both our members and our Denver Metro area non-profit community.  Thank you to all of you for taking your time to help our SVGD organization!!
I have just put two new events on our web site for the month of February for which you can now register.  We will be helping KUVO Public Radio Station at their phone bank and will be helping the Jeffco Action Center with their Clothing Donation Sorting.  Please see the details below.
Also, I have added after our events, some of the future events that I am working on so you have an idea and can put them into your schedule (as suggested by one of our members at last night's meeting).  There will be more events to come for all the upcoming months but these are the ones I'm working on right now.

 NEW FEBRUARY EVENTS:

Phone Bank for KUVO Public Radio Station, Tues. February 19, 5:30-8PM, 5 Volunteers are needed to help answer calls from patrons pledging to support the station.  This is an interesting time to see the workings of a radio station.  The station is located in the redeveloping Five Points neighborhood.  Since 1985, KUVO has provided a rare blend of music and news.  Their mission is to provide distinctive music, news, and informational programming reflecting the values and cultural diversity of their listener community.  They do provide dinner for us that evening.  Also, you will have an opportunity to see the studio that provides the great music!!

Clothing Donation Sorting for Jeffco Action Center, Sat., Feb. 23rd, 9AM-Noon. 6 Volunteers are needed to help sort the donated clothing for the busy week ahead.   During the week people in need shop with volunteer shoppers in their donation "store" that is set up by sizes and types of clothing just like a regular store.  They are told how many items the can receive at the store and are given a time limit for their shopping. We have helped with this portion of their center's activities before and really enjoyed the experience!! The Action Center’s mission is to provide an immediate response to basic human needs and promote pathways to self-sufficiency for Jefferson County residents and the homeless.  They are located in Lakewood.

FUTURE EVENTS:
The following events are going to be upcoming but I don't have the Event Captains nor all the details yet.  Some of our members do like to get their schedule planned as soon as possible so I'm listing these so you can "pencil them" in to your schedule.  I will let you know when I have all the information & have put them on the web site so you can "officially" register.
