New December Volunteer Event Next Saturday!

Saturday, November 24, 2018
SVGD Volunteers:
I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!!  We had a very nice group at our SVGD Thanksgiving!  Thank you to Sandra Dow for hosting the event at her home!
I just put a new event on our SVGD web site.  We will be helping at the Holiday Party for Bayaud Enterprises which is for the families of the handicapped persons they assist.  There is a large group of very thankful attendees who will definitely put you in the Holiday Spirit!  We really get involved with the gift-giving etc.  It is next Saturday so sign up soon!  All the details are given below.
Also, I have two other December events scheduled but not yet on our web site as I'm looking for the Event Captains.  I'll let you know when I have them on the web so you can register but thought you might want to pencil them in on your busy schedule.  We will be helping the Botanic Gardens at their Blossoms of Light the evening of Wed., Dec. 12th & will be wrapping gifts for the homeless children at Samaritan House the evening of Thurs., Dec. 20th.  I look forward to seeing you at an upcoming event!

DECEMBER  EVENT:

Holiday Party for Bayaud Enterprises, Sat., Dec. 1st, 11:30AM-3:30PM. 6 Volunteers are needed. We will once again be assisting Bayaud Enterprises at their Holiday Party.  We will be helping to organize the gifts by the children's ages, will be helping to get the gifts from the gift room to Santa at the appropriate times, help as elves for Santa in passing out the gifts, and may even help a little with their buffet food line for the attendees.  This is a fun-filled afternoon with lots of thankful guests!  Bayaud Enterprises mission is to create Hope, Opportunity and Choice, with work as the means through which people with disabilities and other barriers to employment can more fully participate in the mainstream of life.  They do a great job at helping people become self sufficient.  At the Holiday party the families of these people also can come for a lot of fun.  There is a free food buffet for them, Santa Claus, gifts for the children, and usually a well-known speaker coordinating the event.  Everyone is so festive and happy!  It will be a good time to get into the Holiday spirit and to do something to help our community.  The event is held in Northwest Denver.

Need Denim & Diamonds Gala Volunteers + New Event!

Monday, November 05, 2018
SVGD Volunteers:
Fall weather is here and I'm sure we are all starting to think about Thanksgiving!  I have 4 great events on the SVGD web site to help put you in the Thanksgiving spirit where you can make a difference in our community.  I just put the Thanksgiving Food Distribution event on the web site so you can now sign up to help.
Also, WE STILL NEED 4 VOLUNTEERS TO HELP THIS SATURDAY AT THE DENIM & DIAMONDS GALA helping the single mothers & children so that they are not homeless.  Please sign up soon if you can help at this event.
We will be having some fun at the Yappy Hour for the Dumb Friends League where you can even bring your well-mannered dog & have a photo taken if you'd like.  I'll be there but I don't think my two cats would enjoy the experience!  Also, please join us at the SVGD Thanksgiving Dinner!  Details for all four of these November events are given below.

NOVEMBER  EVENTS:

Denim & Diamonds Gala benefiting the Bridges of Hope, Sat. Nov. 10th, 4:30-8:30PM, (WE STILL NEED 4 VOLUNTEERS FOR THIS SATURDAY!) 6 Volunteers are needed. We will be helping with check-in, registration, and a little with the live & silent auction.  Volunteers will be provided with a plated dinner (just like the $100-$850 guests) and will have a break.  Bridges of Hope partners with single mothers and their children to provide rental assistance to prevent homelessness.  The event is being held in Lakewood at an Event Center that many use for weddings & special events.  It resembles a European Vineyard with rock arches.  We will be inside with a great view of a small lake!  Cocktail attire is fine but with the "Denim & Diamonds" theme it is fine to wear jeans and a fancy shirt.  They will be having cocktails and live music also.  Our volunteers are invited to stay to dance and enjoy the event which ends around 11:30PM.

Thanksgiving Food Distribution for the Jeffco Action Center, Sunday, November 18th, 8-10:30AM. 6 Volunteers are needed.  We will once again be helping the low-income families in Jefferson County so that they are able to have a Thanksgiving Dinner for their family.  The event is actually at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds on the Sunday prior to Thanksgiving.  Low income families will receive a voucher prior to the event.  This event will help approx. 5200 families!!  We will collect the vouchers and then hand out boxes that contain the fixings for them to prepare a Thanksgiving dinner for their household.  The families will also receive a certificate for a turkey or ham at their local grocery store.  We have helped at this event before.  It is such a good feeling to help the families that would not be able to have a Thanksgiving dinner at their homes.  They are so very grateful for the assistance!  Before you have your Thanksgiving, please help those who are hoping to have one.

Yappy Hour benefiting the Denver Dumb Friends League, Sat., Nov. 17th, 2-4PM, Everyone is welcome but we do need to register how many are coming prior to the event.  Please sign up by Monday, November 12th so we can let them know how many are coming.  Join us at a brewery near Broadway/Hampden for their "Paws to be Thankful!" Yappy Hour.  Start a new tradition with family and friends, and give thanks for our furry friends.  This is a dog friendly event (must be leashed, well behaved & kept in hand) and raise a pint for homeless pets. You are welcome to invite friends just let us know how many. A portion of the beer sales benefit the homeless pets at the Dumb Friends League.  You can also get a photo with you and your pup by Denver's A-List Top Dog Photographer, Sean McNeil for a $25 donation or purchase a collectible glass while supplies last if you like.  You do not have to bring a dog to the event though!  Every once in awhile we do a social event that benefits a good cause.  Our Going Out for a Good Cause Meetup group is being invited as well as volunteers from many organizations & companies.  I hope to see you there for some pre-Thanksgiving fun!

SVGD Thanksgiving Dinner, Thurs., Nov. 22, 1:30PM-approx. 5:30PM, We will be having a Thanksgiving Dinner again for our members at one of our member's homes in Centennial.  We've  done this several times and it has always been well attended.  We have several members who are not able to go to be with their families on Thanksgiving (or at least don't have afternoon plans) & enjoy having a place to go and meet some great people.  SVGD will provide the turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes & gravy.  Each of the attendees will be bringing a potluck dish to pass such as an appetizer, salad, bread, vegetable, or dessert.  After you sign up I will contact you to figure out what you'd like to bring.  We try to coordinate so that we do have a variety and plenty to eat.  Attendees also will bring whatever they wish to drink (we, of course, will have water.)  You are responsible to drink responsibly.  If you'd like to share Thanksgiving with us we'd love to have you!  We all have so very much for which to be Thankful!!

Denver Rescue Mission & SVGD Thanksgiving Dinner!

Sunday, October 21, 2018
SVGD Volunteers:
What beautiful Fall weather we are having!  I hope you're having a great weekend!  I just put our SVGD Thanksgiving Potluck Dinner on the web site so you can sign up to attend.  Please see the details below.
Also, we can still use one more volunteer to help serve lunch next Saturday at the Denver Rescue Mission.  Please sign up soon if you'd like to assist.
I have two more events that I will be putting on our November schedule as soon as I confirm the Event Captains in case you'd like to pencil them in.  I'll let you know when they are on the web site so you can register.  First, we will be helping on November 10th at the Denim & Diamond Gala benefiting the Bridges of Hope organization that helps single mothers & their children have rental properties so they aren't homeless.  Secondly, we will be helping the morning of Sunday, November 18th in Jefferson County to provide Thanksgiving Meal boxes to low income families who have been given vouchers by the Action Center so they are able to have a Thanksgiving meal for their households.  Both are very worthy events.

Event Results + Need Wednesday Volunteers!

Sunday, October 14, 2018
SVGD Volunteers:
I've got a couple updates on the results from recent events that I thought you'd like to hear.  The BBQ & Blues event that we assisted at a couple months ago raised $35,500 for Habitat for Humanity!  The check was presented to Habitat this past month.  Also, the Fall Membership Drive that we assisted at a week ago for KUVO  public radio station did raise $105,000 in pledges to help keep the radio station going!  Thanks to those of you that helped us raise money for these great non profits.
We did have a full group of volunteers yesterday to help the American Lung Assn. with their registration & T-shirt/bib hand out for the Run the Rocks event!  Unfortunately, the event was cancelled today due to the weather but they are planning on holding it next Sunday.  They were concerned about driving in the weather as well as running on the course today.
WE STILL NEED VOLUNTEERS FOR THIS WEDNESDAY EVENING'S GLOW IN THE GARDENS EVENT FOR THE DENVER BOTANIC GARDENS!  The weather actually is supposed to be much better on Wednesday so I know it will be a fun & spooky time.  It's time to get ready for Halloween!  I really need volunteers to sign up by tomorrow (Monday) morning or I will have to cancel this event.  Please sign up soon if you are able to help.  I don't want to let them down!
Also, we are considering having a Thanksgiving Dinner potluck again.  We've done this several times and it has always been well attended.  We have several members who are not able to go to be with their families on Thanksgiving & enjoy having a place to go and meeting some great people.  At this point, I'm asking if anyone in our group would like to host the event at their home.  Please let me know!  You wouldn't have to cook, just have enough room that we could have a group of people (usually around 12) at your home for the Holiday.  Please contact me if you're interested so we can discuss the possibility.  Thank you!

Using all real pumpkins harvested from local farms, their pumpkin artists push the boundaries of traditional pumpkin carving to create larger-than-life sculptures, dense displays of jack-o-lanterns and ornately detailed showpiece pumpkins. In addition to the pumpkin sculptures and creepy atmosphere, enjoy a wide array of activities.  What a good way to get in the mood for Halloween while supporting a great non profit!

OCTOBER EVENTS:

Fall Membership Drive benefiting KUVO Public Radio Station, Thurs. Oct. 4th, 4:30-8PM, (We still need 2 volunteers for this Thursday!)4 Volunteers are needed. We will help by answering calls from patrons pledging to support the station.  We haven't helped them at a membership drive for over a year so it's time to lend our assistance again.  Usually the call level is not very hectic so it is an interesting time to see the workings of a radio station.  The station is located in the redeveloping Five Points neighborhood. There is free parking.  Since 1985, KUVO has provided a rare blend of music and news.  Their mission is to provide distinctive music, news, and informational programming reflecting the values and cultural diversity of their listener community.  They do provide dinner for us that evening.  Also, you will have an opportunity to see the studio that provides the great music!!

Volunteers Needed for 2 Sept. Events!

Wednesday, September 19, 2018

SVGD Volunteers:
The Taking Flight Gala for Warren Village was a fantastic event last weekend!  Thank you to the volunteers who assisted!

There are two upcoming events the last weekend of September, about 10 days from now, for which we need volunteers.  Our registrations have been a little slow this month, perhaps we've all still been in "Summer" mode.  We still need all the volunteers for both of the last two September events:  the "Beautiful Junk Sale" benefiting the Jeffco Action Center &  the large donation for Habitat for Humanity at the Convention Center.  Please check your schedule and sign up if you can help at these events.  Thank you!
I do have three of our October events confirmed.  They are not on the web site as I don't have the Event Captains yet but if you'd like to pencil them on your schedule I'll send out a notice when they are on the web site so you can register.  We will be helping KUVO public radio station with their Fall Membership Drive on Thurs. Oct. 4th from 4:30-8PM.  Then we will be helping the American Lung Assn. with a packet pickup booth for the runners participating in the Red Rocks "Run the Rocks" event from 9:30AM-2PM on Saturday, October 13th, and will be helping the Denver Botanic Gardens at their "Glow at the Gardens" event from 5-10PM on Wednesday, October 17th.   More details will be coming out on the October events soon.

The details for our two September events are given below.  See you soon!

 SEPTEMBER EVENTS:

"Beautiful Junk Sale" benefiting JeffCo Action Center, Sat. Sept. 29, 7:45AM-12PM, 6 volunteers are needed to help during the sale.  What is this you say??  This enormous 2-day garage sale is the largest bargain shopping extravaganza in Jefferson County.  It is held at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds and offers 10,500 sq. ft. of jewelry, collectibles, vintage odds & ends, a vast array of household items, sporting goods, holiday decor & much more!  Our volunteers will be helping during the actual sale which continues all day so they will have the opportunity to shop after their shift if they wish.  We've helped before at the sale portion & enjoyed it.  Last time we were cashiers but that was a little slower so I requested that we help in the sales portion again this time which our volunteers enjoyed more. This event normally brings in more than $50,000 to support families in need through the Action Center's services.

ReStore Donation for Habitat for Humanity, Sun. Sept. 30, 4-10PM, 6 Volunteers are needed.  Habitat for Humanity is having a special event at the Colorado Convention Center.  They are receiving a donation from a large retail convention that will generate over $400,000 in Habitat ReStore sales to help them fund homeownership and & home repair programs.  We helped them at the convention center for a similar experience a few years ago.  They are so happy to have SVGD volunteers again that they are going to note us as a "Habitat Sponsor" which should greatly help our SVGD organization.  We will be working with the Habitat staff to organize the donations onto pallets for distribution to their ReStores.  They will provide training prior to the beginning of the event.  We will each receive a free parking voucher, a Habitat Tshirt and will be given a dinner break.  Volunteers will receive snacks & water but are encouraged to bring their own sack dinner if they wish.  They also ask that you bring a sense of humor, flexibility, patience and be prepared to multi-task!  There will be some standing and lifting.  This is a fun, worthwhile, event for which they really need us.  Please come help if you wish to help a fantastic cause & know that you really made a difference!!

2 New September Volunteer Events!

Sunday, August 26, 2018

SVGD Volunteers:

I just put 2 new September events on our SVGD web site for which you can register!  We will be helping the JeffCo Action Center with their upcoming Fall Sale.  Also, Habitat for Humanity is receiving a huge donation so we will be helping them at the Denver Convention Center.  These are two very worthwhile causes coupled with our previous commitment to help Warren Village with their Gala and The Crossing with serving a meal to the homeless residents.

We have a very busy September in which we'll provide assistance to 4 great non-profit organizations.  The details for all four events are given below.  Thank you for your assistance in helping make a difference in the Denver Metro area!!!

OTHER SEPTEMBER EVENTS:

Serving Lunch at The Crossing homeless shelter, Sat.Sept. 8th, 10:30AM-1:30PM,  ( We still need 4 volunteers for this event) 6  total volunteers are needed. Many of our volunteers request this event because they enjoy it and feel that it is such a worthwhile organization. Usually we help during the week for dinner but this is a weekend opportunity for lunch which might work better for some of your schedules.  The Crossing is a transitional facility between the homeless shelter and getting back into an apartment.  The residents are working and saving up for an apartment.  It is drug & alcohol free.  Men, women & families reside there.  It provides a great service as people work to get back on their feet. Our volunteers will help in the buffet line and may help with some of the meal bags for those who come back from work after lunch time.  After we serve lunch we will have an opportunity to eat as a group and also enjoy the meal.  We then do a few minutes of clean up and straightening in the dining room.

Taking Flight Gala benefiting Warren Village, Fri. Sept 14, 4PM-late evening, (We still need 2 volunteers for this event) 6 total Volunteers needed. Warren Village's gala evening has cocktails, a gourmet dinner, a live & silent auction, an inspirational program, dancing, and is being held at the MicNichols Civic Center Building in Denver. Our volunteers will actually start at 5PM, if you can't make it earlier, but they are serving food to volunteers from 4-5PM.  They will be confirming later what our exact duties are at the gala.  The event runs until 11PM but they will release volunteers as the night winds down and will only keep people as needed.  Warren Village exists so low-income, single-parent families can achieve sustainable personal & economic self-sufficiency.  They offer safe & affordable housing; provide career & financial counseling; a life skills & parenting class; plus have a Learning Center for the children along with after school & social/emotional support services.  Previously we've helped them paint their learning center, have decorated their main building for the Holidays, and have helped at a few events through the years

Details for both of these events are given below.

EVENT NEEDING VOLUNTEERS:

Live at the Vineyards benefiting KUVO Public Radio Station, Sat, Aug. 11th, 3:00PM-9:00PM. (We still need 2 Volunteers for this event.) 6 volunteers are needed to help with the Corporate Tables. We help with the table decorations then the Corporate guests arrive at 5:30PM.  We will attend to the guests by getting them wine, water & coffee, plus clear the dishes.  It is a relaxed atmosphere where you will get to interact and have fun with the corporate guests while also listening to music.  You will get to have a great gourmet meal & wine tasting also.  The event is located North Denver at the Balistreri Vineyards.  There is also an auction and dancing.  This year's featured artist is The Spanish Harlem Orchestra, two-time Grammy-winning Salsa and Latin Jazz band, sets the standard for excellence for authentic, New York style, hardcore salsa.  We have assisted them for years and always enjoy the experience.  Good music and fun people!

NEW EVENT ON WEB SITE:

Taking Flight Gala benefiting Warren Village, Fri. Sept 14, 4PM-late evening, 6 Volunteers needed.
