Volunteering "Three Strikes" Policy
[09/28/2009] When we make a commitment to a non-profit for a certain number of volunteers, they are counting on us to deliver. If members sign-up to volunteer and don't show-up, it impacts not only the non-profits, but also your fellow volunteers, who have to work harder to do the job of the missing volunteer. SVGD has an official "3 strikes" policy. For each time you sign-up and don't show up (or cancel with less than 1 days notice), you will receive a "strike". If you get 3 strikes, your SVGD membership will be terminated. We certainly understand that illness and other emergencies do occur, which is why we allow 3 strikes. This policy may seem harsh, but we hope that you understand that the non-profits are counting on us. If our volunteers do not show up, non-profits will no longer want to work with us. Thanks for your understanding.
Alcohol Policy Reminder
[09/28/2009] Some of our volunteer events involve alcohol. In some cases, our volunteers are given time to sample alcoholic drinks. Note that it is SVGD's official policy that it is ok to sample drinks, so long as members do not drink in excess or to the point where it negatively impacts you ability to carry out your volunteering duties. The Code of Conduct that you agreed to when you joined prohibits the use of alcohol in excess. We want our members to have fun at these events, but don't forget the main reason why we are there!
